What are stink bugs?

boxelder bugStink bugs are insects belonging to the Pentatomidae family. As the name suggests, the insects belonging here gives off a pungent and nasty smell. They us this smell to ward of danger, fight their predators, and protect themselves. They also use it to communicate with their fellow stink bugs, as they will send their smell to give them a warning should there be danger in the horizon. Bugs also use this for their courting process; the smell would attract other bugs to become their mates. The smell also protects them from other microorganisms. An example of a stink bug is the Boxelder bug. Although this bug does not bite people or cause an allergic reaction, it is considered as a pest since it infests home and buildings during cold days. They stay on walls and might end up staining it or leave their excrements behind. Just like with any other stink bugs, the Boxelder bug also gives that bad smell especially when they are crushed.
