What are the Boxelder bug’s behaviors during the change in seasons?
During spring, boxelder bugs would feed and stay on rocks, shrubs, or trunks that are close to the host plants. As summer approaches, the boxelder bugs would reproduce and they will lay their eggs on the female boxelder trees. At fall, the bugs would start to gather on warm places until the colder days approach when they decide to leave and find shelter. The shelter that they choose would usually be a building or a house. Buildings should be tall since they stay at the highest part where the sun can reach them. The bugs can fly the distance of up to two miles but on certain occasions, they will just fly for a few blocks. The bugs will stay at the attic or in the walls. When the sun would appear or warmth would come during winter, they would gather at the window or anywhere near the rays.
