Why do Boxelder bugs infest homes and buildings during fall and winter and not in summer or spring?
Boxelder bugs, from the order of Hemiptera, usually flock homes around fall and winter. They stay away during spring and summer but they travel for these places during the two seasons. It is the weather that they are after. In spring and summer, these bugs would spend their time outdoors eating and reproducing in Boxelder trees. Nymphs or the young bugs can actually be found during fall. They only leave their posts during colder days usually in fall and winter. The bugs need to find shelter during these times that is why they choose to live around houses and buildings that are warm. Boxelder bugs often choose buildings that are high enough for warmth or they stay at the highest part of the house, which is the attic. Sometimes they choose the window because this is where the sunlight reaches them.
